Low self-esteem in both children and adults can stem from a lessened sense of self. Our identities are forever changing as we experience life. By representing global words and diverse images in literature, we gain a better understanding of our global world.

In this beautifully illustrated story, young readers journey to cultures around the world to explore the meaning of the dastaar, or turban of the Sikhs. Allusive words placed within a vibrant red dastaar help promote our connections as global citizens and encourage dialogue around issues of identity and kinship. A Lion's Mane promises to be a staple on the shelves of all young visionaries.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR & ILLUSTRATOR
Navjot Kaur’s upbringing in England, partnered with her Sikh-Panjabi heritage, has only enriched her ability to identify across cultural boundaries. Having already led diversity initiatives within her schools, A Lion's Mane is her first children's book -- a story that contextualizes the many connections we share as global citizens. Navjot is a member of the Society of Children's Writers and Illustrators and currently resides in Ontario, Canada with her husband and son.

Jaspreet Sandhu is an artist in multiple disciplines including film, animation, illustration, and design. She studied at York University focusing in Film Production, and South Asian Studies. Her work focuses on diversity and cultural issues. The images in A Lion’s Mane are her first for a children’s book.
