The Sikhs

The 2004 Sikhpoint Calendar, titled The Sikhs, is an early wall calendar. The intro is a short account of Sikh life rather than a guest-artist year.

It describes Sikhs as disciples of the Gurus from Guru Nanak (1469-1539) to Guru Gobind Singh, who gave Sikhs their distinctive appearance: unshorn hair, beards, turbans, and the kirpan. At his death he passed the guruship to Sri Guru Granth Sahib, which includes writings of the Sikh Gurus and of spiritual men of other faiths.

Gurdwaras in American cities welcome all and share a meal. The first Sikhs came to the United States and Canada over a hundred years ago and worked on railroads in the Pacific Northwest and the Panama Canal in 1904.
