Maharaja Ranjit Singh was responsible for much of the the marble inlay, carving and lattice work, mural paintings and most famously, the gold plated copper work. This was carried out to the highest standards by artisans of Muslim, in copper is attributed to one of the most renowned artisans and architects of the 19th century, Bhai of Art, Lahore and designed amongst other Queen Victoria’s private residence, The Osbourne House, on the Isle of Wight.

This engraving is taken from a Victorian book of design which showcased the crafts and decorative architecture of Amritsar and Lahore. The original text commentary describes the design as “a fair example of modern Sikh arabesque” and stated that the length of the copper plate was 3 feet 3 inches, its greatest height 3 feet and its price Rs 25.
