Introduction

He holds an MA in South Asian Religions from De Montfort University, Leicester (2001). He is the author of four books on Sikh history: "The Granth of Guru Gobind Singh: Essays, Lectures and Translations" (Oxford University Press, 2015), "Sri Dasam Granth Sahib: Questions and Answers" (Archimedes Press, 2011), "The British and the Sikhs: Discovery, Warfare and Friendship" (Helion and Company), and "The Rise of the Sikh Soldier-The Sikh Warrior through the ages, c1700-1900" (2022). He has also co-convened 7 International Sikh Research Conferences (ISRC) at the University of Warwick.

Gurinder has researched and discovered many Sikh artefacts and relics, delivering lectures worldwide for 25 years. He has worked with major UK museums, including The Royal Armouries, The Royal Collection, and the Victoria and Albert Museum, among others.

He has appeared on the acclaimed "Celebrity Antiques Road Trip" on BBC TV (2017) and in print, radio, and TV worldwide. He has surveyed the battlefields of the First Anglo-Sikh War and received an award from the village of Aliwal, Panjab, for his research in this area. He also project coordinated the design of the Sikh Troops War Memorial in Leicester (2022) to honour fallen Sikh soldiers in the world wars.

THE SIKH MUSEUM INITIATIVE (SMI)

Gurinder set up the Sikh Museum Initiative (SMI) to research numerous Sikh relics and artefacts in the UK. The initiative has made headway by utilising new technologies like 3D modelling and augmented reality to showcase and preserve Sikh heritage. He curated the exhibition "Anglo Sikh Wars: Battles, Treaties and Relics" (2017), the first major exhibition on the wars in the UK. There have been 2 Contemporary Sikh Art Exhibitions in the UK (2018 and 2024), showcasing artwork worldwide. The team promoted the history of Maharajah Duleep Singh and Sophia Duleep Singh with the Ancient House Museum.

The digitisation of artefacts in 3D has come together in the world's first Sikh 3D Museum, Anglo Sikh Virtual Museum. Working with developer Taranjit Singh, this has changed how Sikh history can be preserved. It is used worldwide and cited in industry reports, appearing in the top ten online museums. In 2023, the UK's first 3D Sikh interactive exhibit was installed at the Royal Armouries, Leeds.
