Coat of Arms - MAHARAJAH DULEEP SINGH The design of the coat of arms is attributed to Prince Albert, and appropriately shows a lion standing beneath a coronet surmounted by a five pointed star. The Latin motto, “Prodesse quam conspici” translates as: “To do good rather than be conspicuous”. Elveden Church This poignant church, set in rural Suffolk amidst acres of farmland and splendid parkland, is a place of significant historical pilgrimage for the Sikhs.

During his time at Elveden, Maharajah Duleep Singh restored and extended the church, which was to eventually become his final resting place. He is currently buried in the churchyard alongside his wife, Bamba, and son, Albert. Graves The graves of Maharajah Duleep Singh, and his wife Bamba and son Albert are poignant and moving reminders of the demise of the legacy of the once great dynasty of Maharajah Ranjit Singh.

A place of cultural pilgrimage for Sikhs from across the globe, they continue to evoke powerful sentiments.

“Nothing is more painful for any one than the thought that their children and grandchildren have no future, and may become absolute beggars. How much more dreadful must this be to proud people, who are the sons and grand-sons of Great Princes.”

Queen Victoria in a letter to Lord Dalhousie Governor General of India, October 1854
