Guru Ki Maseet, Sri Hargobindpur, District Gurdaspur

The mosque was built by Guru Hargobind, the 6th Guru of the Sikhs, and is looked after by the Nihang Singhs. It is a practical manifestation of the spirit of tolerance and coexistence espoused by the Sikh faith. A unique approach was developed for the conservation of this shared sacred site, wherein people from the town, as well as from the villages around it, participated in the conservation program.

Towards the end of the first phase of the project, an agreement was reached between the Punjab Wakf Board and the Nihang Singhs that the latter would continue to be the caretakers of the mosque while members of both faiths would be allowed to practice within the site. The second phase of the project for the completion of the conservation and site development has now commenced and would be completed by 2010.

The scope of the project includes conservation of the mosque, the gateway, and the well, providing facilities for the caretakers and the local community, as well as landscape of the site. Consultants: CRCI. Contractors: M/S Heritage Conservation Management Services.
