Canadian Sikhs have come a long way since the pioneer days of hardship and struggle. Today, they enjoy high status, influence and recognition as one of the most affluent and successful communities in Canada within all walks of life - from arts, literature, entertainment, IT, media and sport, to politics, law, medicine, commerce, farming, education, industry, the civil service, and much more.

They have led the way and achieved many firsts for the Indo Canadian community.

Such as, the first world champion ice figure skater, the first to be drafted into the National Hockey league, the first female broadcaster and television journalist, the first to be elected to the Legislative Assembly of BC, the first Premier of BC (and of any Canadian province), the first Judge to be appointed to the Supreme Court of Appeal in BC, the first City Councillors and Members of Parliament and the first to publish a full scale Indo Canadian Asian Lifestyle magazine (Mehfil).

Sikhs have also been proud recipients of the Order of BC and Canada and as well represented in the annual Top 25 Canadian Immigrants awards, in agriculture they have become some of the biggest producers of strawberries, raspberries and cranberries in the global market.
