Introduction

Rajinder Parsad Singh Tattal, also known as the ‘Pen-Tacular-Artist’ is a freelance artist from East London. Rajinder Parsad captures vivid detail in his pieces through the use of graphite and charcoal pencils, which creates realistic black and white pencil artwork. His story is one of discovery and passion, where his rekindled love for art at the age of 38 has changed his life for the better.

His main passions when younger were superheroes and comics books, and he had his own first Sikh superhero comic strip published in a national UK newspaper when he was only 15 years old, called ‘Rajman’. He graduated with a degree in Product Design coming top of his class and, in his final year, being shortlisted for the prestigious ‘Design Award’.

He then went through a 12-year period of not drawing, and working in different fields unrelated to the arts or design. But in 2012, due to a variety of circumstances, he started drawing again and made a life changing decision to become a full time artist.

Whilst his work spans a number of themes and topics ranging from space, superheroes to history, Rajinder Parsad's real passion is to educate and raise awareness of subject matters that are important to him, such as Sikhism and animal cruelty, along with social issues like raising awareness of subjects like autism and depression, through the striking imagery of his work. By channeling art towards education, Rajinder believes he can help improve social cohesion and make the world a better place.

Rajinder Parsad normally works alone and in solitude when creating most of his artwork, having complete artistic control over his vision and end goal. But his religious Sikh artwork is done differently as it is created with the collaboration of his mother ‘Shkinder Kaur’, who suggests what subject matters to draw. The inspiration and advice she gives him when creating his Sikh artwork is invaluable.

Rajinder Parsad tours the UK with his work and has featured extensively in a number of exhibitions including the prestigious ‘City Hall London’ Vaisakhi event. His work is now getting international recognition, with his artwork being exhibited in Canada and also in Paris. He continues to draw inspiration from the tenth Guru of the Sikhs, Guru Gobind Singh Ji. “He has the heart of a saint and the body of a warrior and I’ve always aspired to be like that”.
