Harappa once had a large Sikh presence which is evident from the size of the Nanaksar Gurdwara on the outskirts of the city. The premises of the Nanaksar Gurdwara, now serve as the Government Higher Secondary School. The Nanaksar Gurdwara was built in memory of the visit of Guru Nanak who had stopped here on his way to the mausoleum of Hazrat Shah Shams Tabrez in Multan.

This gurdwara was once known as Gurdwara Nanaksar Pehli Pathshahi but was popularly shortened to Nanaksar Gurdwara. In the third decade of the 20th century, the gurdwara was enlarged by the construction of a polygonal domed sanctum on a high plinth, a sarovar and residential blocks.

In the past, twice a year, a special community fair was held at this gurdwara which would be attended by Sikhs and Hindus from all over the Punjab. The gurdwara, like many other sites, was abandoned in the partition of 1947 when the entire Sikh community moved to India.

Till the 1990's many Sikhs visited Harappa after their trip to Nankana Sahib and Panja Sahib but now the flow has stopped.
