THE ELEPHANT STAIRS leading up from the ground level to the elevated compound housing Ranjit Singh's palace. These wide and deep stairs were designed to allow the Emperor's special visitors to access the palace seeking a private audience to ride up all the way to the top without having to dismount their elephants, horses or palanquins.
